Lunch for work: calculate your own annual budget
Partager
Bringing lunch to work can change your food budget, but the result depends on your habits. Compare your real spending, the number of meals involved and the equipment you need. This guide offers a method, not guaranteed savings.
Calculate the difference per meal
Record what you personally pay for a bought lunch and the ingredients for a prepared meal. Include additional costs that matter to you, such as containers, wasted food or transport. Count only meals that actually replace a purchase.
The formula is the difference per meal multiplied by the number of relevant meals. An illustrative example, not measured average prices: a €13 bought lunch and €3.50 prepared lunch give a €9.50 difference. Over 100 meals that is €950; over 20 meals, €190. Your figures may differ considerably.
Account for workplace support and your schedule
An employer contribution, subsidised canteen or other benefit can change your personal cost. Compare the amount you actually pay rather than assuming the full advertised lunch price is yours.
Remote working, travel, holidays and lunches with colleagues also change the number of meals carried. An annual estimate is more useful when based on your calendar.
Choose a lunch bag around your container
Measure the container with its lid, check its intended position and ensure the bag closes without forcing. A separate space organises lunch but does not make a poorly closed container watertight.
Insulation slows heat transfer; it does not refrigerate food or guarantee a holding time. Follow the storage requirements of what you carry.
Compare the HAKSAM formats
L’Élégant is intended for a compatible laptop and lunch. Le Signature is intended for a tablet and lunch. Both are pebbled calfskin bags with a built-in insulated meal space.
Check current dimensions and delivery information, including 8 business days from dispatch, before ordering.
Make a decision based on actual use
A bag does not automatically pay for itself through food savings. Its value depends on your needs, price and frequency of use. Calculate your figures and compare your equipment with the format before choosing.
