Pebbled calfskin is the material used for HAKSAM’s two leather work bags, L’Élégant and Le Signature. We combine it with an integrated insulated lunch compartment and everyday storage. This guide explains the material, manufacturing origin and care.
Pebbled calfskin leather in our bags
Calfskin is animal leather. Our black models have a visible grain. Texture, feel and flexibility should be considered alongside the stitching, lining and construction. A photograph or the word “premium” alone cannot establish material quality. Leather can show variations and change with use.
The grain alone is not evidence of tanning method, certification or geographic origin of the hide. Such claims require documentation. Each product page lists the features relevant to that model.
Manufacturing in China, clearly stated
HAKSAM is based in the Paris region. Our calfskin bags are made in China by a partner workshop specialising in this material. Brand location and manufacturing origin are separate facts. We do not describe these products as made in France or as French artisanal production.

Genuine leather and PU: different materials
Genuine leather comes from animal hide. PU means polyurethane; a product sold as PU faux leather generally uses a substrate with a synthetic coating. These are different materials. Some animal leathers also have a surface finish, so ask for precise composition rather than judging solely by appearance.
No material alone guarantees a fixed lifespan. Construction, care, loading and usage conditions also matter. We do not promise ten years of use or a surface that never develops marks.
How to clean a leather bag
Dust with a soft, dry cloth. Treat marks gently without soaking the surface. Test a suitable leather care product on a discreet area first. Avoid solvents, direct heat and drying on a radiator. Store without excessive pressure and protect from humidity.
